Valarie is a children’s book author who has published numerous books including The Fox Diaries: The Year The Foxes Came to Our Garden ,The Ultimate Guide to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A Year in The Secret Garden and Dragons Are Real.
Valarie is a co-founder of the much-acclaimed Multicultural Children’s Book Day– a special event that celebrates diversity in children’s literature. Our mission is to not only raise awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity but to get more of these of books into classrooms and libraries. Teaming up with fellow mom and diversity advocate, Mia Wenjen from Pragmatic Mom, Valarie worked to create an ambitious (and much needed) national event. January 27th, 2014 Jump into a Book and Pragmatic Mom presented the first-ever Multicultural Children’s Book Day: Celebrating Diversity in Children’s Books that included four major sponsors, over seventy review bloggers and thousands of readers.
Seven years later, this non-profit has gone global and, to date, has donated over 8,000 diverse children’s and YA books to underserved readers, classrooms, and libraries.
When not reading, writing or publishing, Valarie is a reading mentor, a children’s play and reading advocate, Suzuki piano teacher, photographer, traveler, and a lifelong learner.families, and also Audrey Press-an independent book publishing house.
Valarie is an award-winning publisher, author, and musician – using her travels around the world to inspire her healing soundscapes. She is a dynamic leader who invites her students and clients into immersive explorations of the self. Her teachings inspire the community, and she believes that sound can not only heal – but change the world. Her mission is to share the beauty and wonder of the world, inspiring and empowering people into their best and fullest selves.
Valarie lives in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee during the summer and resides in New Mexico during the winter months.
